The AHRA community is one of the most active and engaged of any professional society, with members regularly exchanging best practices and insights through in-person and virtual events, the Radiology Management journal, LINK, and the AHRA Forum. The AHRA Benchmarking Survey — the first of its kind designed exclusively for imaging leaders — builds on this spirit of collaboration by offering a structured opportunity to share operational, financial, staffing, and performance data.

The aggregated results will be presented in a comprehensive report, complimentary for AHRA members and available for purchase for non-members, providing valuable, actionable insights to establish industry standards, uncover emerging trends, and fuel advocacy efforts that elevate the entire AHRA community.

What It Is and Why It Matters

The AHRA Benchmarking Survey is a vital initiative that collects essential operational performance metrics from imaging leaders nationwide. It provides a structured platform for participants to share select performance measures and operational insights, which are then compiled into a comprehensive dataset to support benchmarking, identify best practices, and drive performance improvement across the field.

Survey FAQs

Can multiple people work on the survey together?

Yes! Collaboration is permitted. We want to capture as many responses as possible so organizations can benefit from richer benchmarking data and more meaningful comparisons. If your organization has multiple sites providing medical imaging, each location should submit a survey under its own Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) since performance metrics can vary by site.

Example: A hospital with a main campus and multiple outpatient imaging centers under the same TIN should submit one survey. In contrast, a health system with multiple hospitals or imaging centers under different TINs should submit one survey per TIN.

How long does the survey take to complete?

Approximately 30-45 minutes.

Tip: Gathering key information before starting the survey can help streamline the process and make completion more efficient.

What information should I gather before starting?

To facilitate efficient survey completion, we recommend gathering the following data elements in advance:

  • Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)
  • Annual Modality Volume (Procedure) Data
  • Turnaround Time Reports
  • Outpatient Patient Access Reports/Data (e.g., Time to Next Available Appointment, Days/Hours of Operation, Appointment/Exam Durations, etc.)
  • Staffing Model Templates and Reports (FTEs, Coverage/Schedule Documents, etc.)

For reference, you can also review a PDF version of the survey before starting.

Can I save my progress and return later?

Yes. Responses are automatically saved as users navigate from page to page. However, a page must be fully completed for it to save; incomplete pages will not be saved. You may exit and re-enter the survey as often as needed before submitting the final response.

Will my responses and data be kept confidential?

Yes! All responses and data will be retained by AHRA and kept confidential. The results and final report will not provide actual respondent organization names; rather, all data will be presented anonymously.

What happens with the survey results?

All submitted data will be synthesized and aggregated according to key organizational characteristics. Approximately two months after the survey closes, a final report will be shared with AHRA members and nonmembers who purchase access.

All AHRA members will receive the report for free as part of their membership, regardless of participation. Please note that your membership must remain active through 2026 (2025 memberships expire on Wednesday, December 31, 2025).
